A small sized canvas, two electric blue mushrooms emerge out of the violet and red clay ground. What is interesting is the play of complementary color changes that occur through the cycle of maturity in this mushroom. A fungus that begins orange and grows into a matured electric blue toadstool. Contrast is strong in this painting, both in coloration and diverse surface buildup. These distinct and sharp contrasts in texture make the painting surface surge, as if the atmosphere was encouraging the mushrooms growth. The mushrooms stand out from the yellow-green foliage like orbs emitting an inner, electric light. It’s a type mushroom that looks like it is either something fictitious or extremely toxic. However, not much is known about the actual toxicity of this mushroom that resides mostly in New Zealand.
