I refer to these paintings as “after thought” paintings, simply for the fact that they were executed after the original painting they reference. It’s very much a painting after a painting and with it comes a different way to visually experience. While baring certain resemblance to an earlier painting, these smaller scale paintings encourage a comparison with the original. In a sense, that comparison also creates a new layer of detail and meaning through the relationship between both paintings. Though each “after thought” painting and it’s original differ in technical executions, they present new ways of perceiving, understanding and comprehending visual information.
