This painting reeks of sarcasm, but somehow through this sarcasm comes a statement of truth. How absurd can a dropping of a nuclear bomb on human life be? Well, three individuals in hazmat suits, playing volleyball with the bomb is how. This painting touches on the notion of herd mentality and the willingness of humans to participate in acts of atrocity, no matter how self-devastating they may be, in order to feel a sense of camaraderie and avoid alienation, being ostracized or ridiculed. The devastation is all around them, signified by the pits of fire surrounding the figures. A couple more serves and it’s game over.
