Woke up this Morning, had the A-Bomb on My Mind
2015
Oil on canvas
50 x 50 in.
[Sold at HEDGE gallery to Private Collector]

This painting came about after I viewed a YouTube video from 1946 entitled “Declassified U.S. Nuclear Test Film.” It is a year after the U.S. dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima. This painting embodies the attempts of communication between two figures, one figure of the present and one figure of the past. The figure of the present is in a red hat and blue coat and slouches closer to a figure of the past that appears to be wrapped in bandages. Above the figure in the red had is a contour illustration of the atomic bomb going off. This painting embodies the innocent lost in horrendous acts and the attempts to come to terms with an unspeakably traumatic past.
